Hughton rejects Given link

Newcastle boss Chris Hughton has ruled out a move for former Magpies goalkeeper Shay Given.
Reports over the weekend linked Newcastle with a move for out-of-favour Manchester City keeper Given after losing No.1 Steve Harper to injury in their 1-0 win at Everton on Saturday.
Newcastle are still waiting to find out the full extent of Harper’s injury, but the keeper is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Rumours had suggested Newcastle could move to bring Given back to St James’ Park on an emergency loan as cover for Harper, but Hughton has played down the speculation.
Given is considering a move away from Eastlands after losing his No.1 spot to Joe Hart this season and City boss Roberto Mancini has admitted he will not stand in the way of the Irishman if he wants to leave
However, Hughton dismissed the speculation linking Given with a shock return to Tyneside as “wild stuff” as he waits to find out how long Harper will be sidelined for.
“Steve is still being assessed. It’s shoulder ligament damage, but we won’t know until tomorrow,” Hughton told the Evening Chronicle.
“But he will be out for more than just weeks. We will have to wait and see.”
